High Variability Phonetic Training in the Classroom
My colleagues Silvina Bongiovanni (Michigan State University), Alisha Reaves (Towson University), Ryan Lidster (University of North Carolina Wilmington), Jamie Root (New York University), Chisato Kojima (Illinois Wesleyan University), and I have created short online perception training sessions for Spanish, French, and Japanese based on principles of high variability phonetic training. We are currently in the process of making a free website that teachers can incorporate into their courses. If you're interested in beta testing our future HVPT website, sign up here!
Teaching Experience
Linguistics and Pedagogy
I have designed and taught an Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics course, a Spanish phonetics/pronunciation course, a graduate Spanish SLA course, and a graduate teaching methods course. Go to my "Resources & Links" page to see some resources for teaching Spanish phonology/pronunciation and regional variation.

Spanish as a Second Language
I've taught a variety of Spanish language courses, from beginner to advanced level. As a specialist in second language acquisition and Hispanic Linguistics, I consistently aim to apply my knowledge of research on the acquisition of Spanish as a second language to the classroom. Here are the courses I've taught:
University of North Carolina Wilmington
English as a Second Language
My experience as an ESL instructor includes teaching in an intensive immersion program and in an English language improvement program for university students. I've designed courses within a content-based curriculum in reading and writing as well as speaking and listening. I've also taught more specialized courses in English pronunciation, "phonics" (a class on pronunciation and sound-spelling correspondences for lower-level learners), and extensive reading (a class designed to boast learners' reading fluency and vocabulary knowledge through the extensive reading of easy books for their level). See below for my list of courses taught:
Intensive English Program
Courses in this program range from Level 1 (lowest proficiency) to Level 7 (ready for academic coursework in a university)
This program is for students registered as regular university students
